7 Mistakes Guests Make When Renting a Car at One&Only Royal Mirage

1. Not telling the rental company which part of the resort you’re in

Royal Mirage isn’t one hotel. It’s three: The Palace, Arabian Court and The Residence & Spa, spread across a large beachfront estate. Parts of the resort have also been closed for renovation and maintenance during 2026, so the wing on your original booking may not be where you end up staying.

Before your car arrives, send the delivery team three things: your wing, your name as it appears on the reservation, and a handover time. Then ask the concierge where handovers usually happen. Five minutes of clarity saves half an hour of phone calls in the heat.

2. Choosing a car for the photo, not the itinerary

A Rolls-Royce looks incredible under the palm trees at the entrance. But if your week involves golf bags, children and a trip to Hatta, it’s the wrong car. Match the car to how you’ll actually spend your days.

3. Relying on hotel transfers for the whole stay

Add a few taxis to the Marina, a return trip to Downtown, and a day out to Abu Dhabi, and the total climbs quickly. 4. Assuming “no deposit” means no card is needed

5. Arriving without the right documents

This is the most common delay by a distance. Visitors need a valid passport, a visit visa, and an International Driving Permit alongside their home licence. UAE residents need a UAE driving licence, an Emirates ID and a passport.

6. Forgetting about Salik, parking and speed cameras

The resort sits between Sheikh Zayed Road and the beach, so almost every trip into the city passes through a Salik toll gate. Tolls are charged to the car and billed after your rental, so ask at handover how this works.

Marina and JBR also have paid parking zones that are strictly enforced. Speed cameras cover most main roads, and any fine follows the car back to you. None of this is complicated, but it catches out guests who assume a luxury rental is all-inclusive.

7. Booking at the last minute in peak season
